Galileoscope Training Workshops

Galileoscope Workshop

Galileoscope telescope kits are designed to support science education and public outreach programs for audiences ranging from schoolchildren to senior citizens. In partnership with the National Optical Astronomy Observatory’s Teaching with Telescopes Program, we offer workshops to train you to use Galileoscopes effectively in schools, museums, planetariums, and other venues. Topics include assembly and disassembly, aiming and focusing, using Galileoscopes to investigate how optics work, and using Galileoscopes to observe the Moon, planets, and other celestial sights.

You have three convenient and economical options to choose from:

Two-Day Workshop: Staff will travel to your location and conduct a two-day Galileoscope workshop for up to 20 participants. Also included is follow-up with participants after 30 to 60 days to assist with any issues that have arisen. The cost is $2,000 plus travel expenses for two trainers. Galileoscopes purchased as part of two-day workshops will be discounted 10%. Up to 5 additional workshop participants can be accommodated for an additional fee.

One-Day Workshop: Staff will travel to your location and conduct a half-day to one-day Galileoscope workshop for up to 20 participants. The cost is $1,000 plus travel expenses for one or two trainers. Galileoscopes purchased as part of one-day workshops will be discounted 5%. Up to 5 additional workshop participants can be accommodated for an additional fee.

Online Workshop: One presenter will conduct a half-day Galileoscope workshop remotely via Skype or a similar online conferencing tool. You may include as many participants as you can fit comfortably into a single room with ample workspace. The cost is $500 plus any expenses associated with setting up and carrying out the online session.

Star Party: As an optional add-on for your two-day or one-day workshop, our staff will conduct an evening star party for participants and up to 100 guests. Attendees should be encouraged to bring their own binoculars, Galileoscopes, and any other small telescopes they may own. Topics include constellation spotting, binocular stargazing, and telescopic observations of easy-to-find targets in the solar system and beyond. The cost is $250 in addition to the workshop fee and is non-refundable unless the star party is canceled due to poor weather before its scheduled start time.
